VERIFIED FEEDBACK
What Range Rover Vogue Mk3 L322 Owners Say About Our Engine Work
Real reviews from Range Rover Vogue Mk3 L322 owners whose engines we have rebuilt, repaired or replaced at our Grays workshop.
“My Td6 was smoking so badly at start-up I feared the worst. Turned out to be turbo seals and breathers, not the engine itself. They fixed exactly what was broken. Rare honesty.”
Alan D.
Vogue Td6
“The 3.6 TDV8 dropped a turbo and contaminated everything. Complete rebuild including both turbos, done beautifully, with parts I couldn't find anywhere sourced within days. My Vogue feels magnificent again.”
Fiona McA.
Vogue TDV8
“Misfire on the 4.4 BMW V8 that three garages blamed on coils. They found worn chain guides and rebuilt the top end properly. These people genuinely understand the early L322.”

DETAIL OVERVIEW
One Vogue, Three Distinct Engine Eras
The L322's decade spanned two ownerships and three engine families. Early cars (2002–2006) used BMW power: the 4.4 M62 petrol V8 and the 3.0 Td6 straight-six diesel — the engine many owners search for as the 'L322 TDV6'. The Ford/Jaguar era brought the 4.4 and supercharged 4.2 AJ-V8 petrols.
Diesel flagship duties passed to the 3.6 TDV8 in 2006, then the 4.4 TDV8 (448DT) from 2010, while petrol cars gained the 5.0 V8 in naturally aspirated and supercharged forms. Incidentally, the 4.6 V8 that owners sometimes associate with the Vogue actually belongs to the earlier P38 — though we rebuild those too.
Age is now these engines' common enemy. Smoking Td6s usually trace to turbo seals, breathers or injectors; BMW V8s wear chain guides; the 3.6 TDV8 is notorious for turbo failures that seed debris through the oil system. Knowing which fault belongs to which era is precisely where specialist knowledge pays.

Keeping the Mk3 on British Roads
As main dealers step away from ageing L322s, our twelve specialist services keep every era of the Mk3 running as intended.

HERITAGE WORKSHOPWHY A SMOKING L322 RARELY MEANS A DEAD ENGINE
Thick smoke from a Td6 or TDV8 sends many owners straight to the scrapyard adverts — usually prematurely. Blue smoke at start-up typically means turbo oil seals or a blocked crankcase breather. White smoke points to injectors or, less often, head sealing. Black smoke suggests fuelling and EGR faults rather than terminal wear.
Genuine internal failure does occur, particularly when a 3.6 TDV8 turbo disintegrates and contaminates the oil circuit. But the diagnosis must come before the verdict. Our smoke-pattern assessment identifies the real culprit quickly — and more often than not, the fix costs a fraction of the engine replacement a general garage might propose.
PARTS, PATIENCE AND THE CRAFT OLDER RANGE ROVERS DEMAND
Supporting a twenty-year-old flagship takes more than enthusiasm. We hold relationships with BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover heritage suppliers, remanufacture components where new stock is extinct, and machine what cannot be bought. Discontinued gaskets, obsolete sensors and rare TDV8 parts are challenges we solve weekly.
We're also honest about economics. Some L322s justify full restoration-grade rebuilds; others are better served by a sound reconditioned unit or a frank conversation about the car's future. You'll always get a straight assessment of value against cost — because keeping owners' trust matters more than winning every job.
