Under the Bonnet of the Mk4 Vogue
Launched in 2012, the L405 replaced the L322 with a revolutionary all-aluminium monocoque, shedding over 400kg while growing in luxury. Its engine range spanned the 3.0 TDV6 and 4.4 SDV8 diesels, the 5.0 supercharged V8, hybrid SDV6 and P400e variants, and — from 2018 — Ingenium D300/D350 and P400 straight-sixes.
Each unit carries known risks at Vogue mileages. The TDV6 shares the V6 diesel family's bottom-end bearing vulnerability. The SDV8's documented weakness is its oil pump, whose failure starves the entire engine within moments. The supercharged V8 develops chain tensioner wear and supercharger bearing noise, while later Ingenium sixes face oil dilution from town-driven regeneration cycles.

The 4.4 SDV8's most serious documented fault is its oil pump. When the pump's drive or internals fail, pressure collapses instantly — and a 2.3-tonne luxury SUV at motorway speed gives its bearings no second chances. Low-pressure warnings demand an immediate stop; continuing even briefly typically destroys the bottom end.
Our SDV8 rebuilds treat the pump as the priority: revised components fitted as standard, drive systems inspected under magnification, and pressure verified across the operating range before the engine returns to its bay. For owners of running SDV8s, we also offer preventative pump replacement — modest insurance against the range's most expensive failure.
