What Engine Powers the Discovery 5?
The Land Rover Discovery 5 (L462) launched in 2017 with a completely new engineering philosophy. Its aluminium monocoque construction shed roughly 480kg compared with the outgoing model, which allowed Land Rover to fit smaller, more efficient engines — most notably the 2.0-litre Ingenium SD4 twin-turbo diesel producing 240PS.
Later models introduced the 3.0-litre Ingenium straight-six, badged D250 and D300, paired with mild-hybrid technology. These smooth, torque-rich units replaced the earlier TD6 and SDV6 V6 diesels. Petrol buyers were offered the Si4 and Si6, though diesel dominates the UK Discovery 5 market by a considerable margin.
