Discovery 3 TDV6 Rebuilds That Outlast The Original
Oil pump failure and worn crank bearings destroy 2.7 TDV6 engines every week. We rebuild yours stronger — with the factory weaknesses engineered out for good.

VERIFIED FEEDBACK
What Land Rover Discovery 3 Owners Say About Our Engine Work
Real reviews from Land Rover Discovery 3 owners whose engines we have rebuilt, repaired or replaced at our Grays workshop.
“Low oil pressure warning on the M25, then silence. The oil pump casing had cracked and taken the bottom end with it. Their rebuilt TDV6 with the uprated pump has been flawless for 18 months.”

“Two garages told me to scrap the car. These guys supplied and fitted a reconditioned engine within a fortnight, sensibly priced, and talked me through every step. The Discovery drives beautifully again.”

“My LR3 import kept clogging its EGR valves and losing coolant. They rebuilt the engine, renewed the buried coolant pipes while everything was apart, and fixed problems the dealer never could.”

DETAIL OVERVIEW
When The 2.7 TDV6 Fails
The Discovery 3's 2.7-litre TDV6 is refined and capable, but it hides a serious design flaw: a plastic-cased oil pump that can crack or lose drive without warning. When it does, oil pressure collapses, the crankshaft bearings run dry, and within moments a repairable engine becomes scrap. Recognising the early signs saves thousands.
Oil starvation isn't the only threat. Twin EGR valves clog with carbon and choke performance, injector seals leak and contaminate the fuel system, and the coolant pipes buried in the engine valley perish with age, causing sudden overheating. Individually these faults are manageable — combined and neglected, they finish the engine.
Our answer is a rebuild that removes these weaknesses permanently. Every 2.7 TDV6 we build receives an uprated oil pump, new crankshaft bearings, cleaned or renewed EGR hardware and fresh valley coolant pipes as standard. The engine that leaves our Grays workshop is measurably better protected than the one Land Rover originally fitted.

Twelve Services Keeping Discovery 3s Alive
Whatever your Discovery 3 or LR3 needs — from preventative oil pump replacement to a complete reconditioned engine — it happens here in Grays.

L319 WORKSHOP SERVICESCATCHING OIL PUMP FAILURE BEFORE IT DESTROYS EVERYTHING
The TDV6 oil pump gives little warning. A brief rattle on cold start, a flickering pressure light, perhaps slightly noisy tappets — then catastrophic bearing failure, often within days. Owners who act on those first symptoms save their engine; owners who wait usually need a complete replacement. If you've noticed any of them, stop driving and call us.
Preventative replacement is the smart move on any 2.7 approaching higher mileage. We fit the improved pump with new pick-up and drive components in a fraction of rebuild cost. For engines already damaged, our full rebuild service recovers blocks and cranks that other workshops write off, verified by measurement rather than guesswork.
A RECONDITIONED ENGINE PROGRAMME BUILT AROUND THE L319
Because TDV6 failure is so common, we maintain a rolling stock of reconditioned 2.7 engines built to our enhanced specification — uprated oil pump, new bearings, renewed valley pipes and refreshed EGR hardware on every unit. That means shorter waiting times when your Discovery 3 is stranded and you need it back earning its keep.
Supply-and-fit customers visit our Grays workshop from across Essex, London and Kent, while trade and DIY customers nationwide order engines crated for delivery. Each engine ships with its build sheet, torque records and warranty certificate, so you know precisely what you've bought and who stands behind it.
