5.0 SUPERCHARGED LAND ROVER SUPPORTChain tensioner wear announces itself as a rattle lasting one to three seconds on cold start, before oil pressure builds. Many owners are told it is harmless; it is not. As guides wear further, chain slap increases, and in the worst cases timing jumps and the interference V8 destroys its own valvetrain.
Supercharger symptoms are subtler, a rising whine under load, sluggish throttle response, or a metallic tinkle from the blower's nose at idle.
Either symptom on a 5.0 justifies immediate assessment. Diagnosed early, both are contained repairs rather than full rebuilds.
